People say Michigan has two seasons: winter and construction season. This week I covered ongoing construction projects around Meridian Township to see what progress is being made.
There are multiple active construction sites around the township, but one notable site is the round-about being built on Park Lake Road and Burcham Drive. I visited the site to film everything from road pavement, to bulldozers and cement trucks.
At first I was cautious about approaching the site because of the many “Road Closed” and “Sidewalk Closed to Pedestrians” signs. But as journalists always say, it’s better to ask for forgiveness than for permission, so I wandered the site filming the men hard at work.
I struggled to get tight shots for my b-roll because I was only able to film from the perimeter of the site. Luckily there was a lot of action to capture to make my story more interesting.
On my way back to the station I stopped across the street by Meridian Mall to film construction workers repairing the sidewalk. Here I was able to get tight, detailed shots because the site was less restrictive.
This was my first construction story, so it was interesting to see the work going on.
