This week I spoke with State Representative Mark Meadows about the importance of constitutional amendments, specifically the freedom of speech.

As a journalist, the first amendment granting the freedom of speech impacts my daily life. I wanted to help show people that the constitution, and especially the first amendment, affect the lives of every American on a daily basis.
I was given creative freedom on this constitutional amendments assignment, so I had to come up with an interesting angle. Instead of doing a general story on the constitutional amendment process, I focused on the freedom of speech and first amendment since it greatly affects me as a reporter.
I enjoyed hearing Mark Meadows’ thoughts as well as the opinions of Lansing residents on why they think the first amendment is important. Naturally by speaking with me, they were exercising their first amendment rights.
