Wharton Center Ovation Award

You know that feeling you get after watching an episode of Glee? The feeling that no real person could be so multi-talented at such a young age? I was Rachel Berry-ed last week while covering a story on the Wharton Center Ovation Award.

Emily McKay, Okemos’s own Rachel Berry, won the inaugural award for Female Lead. She sang, danced and acted her way to the top and is now in New York ready to compete for a Jimmy Award.

I spoke with Ovation Award creator, Dana Brazil, from the Wharton Center who said she saw McKay first perform as a sophomore two years ago and knew she was seeing someone special. Someone Broadway bound. Brazil could not speak more highly of McKay’s personality both onstage and off.

McKay will join the Broncos this fall at Western Michigan University where she will continue to follow her passion of theater.
