This week I finished my video story on Summer Recreation Programs for Meridian Monitor, which is the township newsletter. I wrote the article a few weeks ago, then made a video story to complement the article.
The subject is programs that Meridian Township Parks and Recreation has implemented to keep kids busy and out of trouble during the summer months. It also focused on a scholarship fund that they are creating to help cover the cost of sports programs throughout the school year.
These are only a few of the ways that the township is helping kids be active, even if they can’t afford to. Another way is providing free lunches to kids even if they don’t qualify for free or reduced lunches. So Monday through Friday any child can go to the Snell Towar Recreation Center or Central Elementary and get a free lunch! So kids can not only have somewhere to play but also to eat!
I started the story by interviewing Greg Grothous, a Recreation Specialist for Meridian Township. He is very knowledgeable about the Summer Recreation Programs and was a great interview.
Next, I interviewed LuAnn Maisner, Director of Parks and Recreation, about the scholarship fund. She said that the application is now available online and only needs to be filled out once a year. Students do not need to qualify for financial assistance in order to apply. The scholarship is available to everybody.
Hopefully, this story helped bring awareness to the recreation programs available in Meridian Township so kids can have a fun summer outside!
