This week I started my three-part series focusing on defining the student athlete at both the high school and collegiate levels. I spoke with coaches and students from Haslett High School to see how administration emphasizes academics and well as athletics.
It was interesting see this issue from the coaching perspective, which differed from the players. While the players understood the focus of the term “student-athlete” being on the term “student,” they didn’t acknowledge how this concept might change as they move on to college sports.
In part two, I plan to investigate more about what influences student-athlete’s college decisions, the academic or athletic reputation? Stay tuned!
