Ribbon-Cutting is actually a thing.

When I read my assignment to cover a ribbon cutting event in East Lansing, I couldn’t help but laugh to myself. I thought, “How stereotypical?” When I arrived on the scene, I was the first media person there and I felt pretty awkward. I walked up to the MDOT officials and introduced myself, and they told me I could set up wherever I want. Some guys from other news channels were there and they looked so comfortable and natural and I couldn’t help but feel a little insecure. One guy noticed this and and teased me a bit. It was all in good fun, and I ended up getting some awesome footage. I liked hearing about the project and all the work it took from the community, especially since that construction was a gigantic pain to navigate all around during the summer. I also felt pretty official asking random people for interviews. Overall, for my first event that I covered alone went well!
